Leander Win Stage 3 Spring League (again)

In a close run gala at Mansfield last night (Sat 15th) both Leander A & Leander B were in action contesting the final of the Stage 3 League. Although Sherwood won on the night by just 14 points, Leander A's previous wins in the league galas meant that we won overall. Well done Leander A!

Also, well done Leander B, they swam well in previous galas to gain a position in the final, and the 6th position on the night meant a 6th position in the league overall, which is a reflection of the strength in depth of the Leander squad, so congratulations to them also. The B team even managed to beat A a couple of times!

A fitting end of season present for Tony our head coach - we wish him all the best.

Leander Takes Trophy Again

Saturday (8th June) evening at Derby Pool saw Leander take the Jamie Rigby Trophy for the second year in succession . As the sole Notts club beating 5 Derbyshire clubs was an excellent performance form the club squad. Early in the gala Long Eaton and Belper looked threatening, but Leander swimmers put in performance which gradually increased our lead and we finished over 40 points ahead of our nearest rival (Long Eaton).

An all round good performance with the younger swimmers performing exceptionally well - the 10/u boys winning all their races for instance. Several of Leander's Nova swimmers were also helping out, with Gabby Crawford in particular appearing at regular intervals.

Thanks to all those who made the effort to get to Derby and Well Done!

U-23's Waterpolo - Leander  vs Hucknall 19th May at Beechdale

What a match!

We had the perfect balance of youth and experience, and played amazingly well as a team. Both teams displayed some good waterpolo skills, but Leander totally outswam Hucknall, with stronger sprinting and fitness. The feed through of fast, fit players from our swim team is creating a very strong team.

We won 20-2, with goals from all the team but the captain (a very selfless Andy French) and the goalie (Jenny Robbins), who had a fantastic game, stopping everything, even the 1 on 1 in the last quarter. Particular mentions to Chris and Matt Lambert, who each scored and to Cameron Richards, who scored 2, one a beautiful touch in from Matt's precision pass, probably the goal of the match.

"Man of the match" has to go to Jenny, who was outstanding in goal, confident, quick and focussed. A huge thanks to Colin who refereed, and to Alex and Phil who ran the scoring table.

Well played, Leander, a well-deserved and resounding win.

Stage 3 Round 2 PDF Print

A Beautiful day for a gala! We were co-hosts at the round 2 stage 3 gala in Retford  bit of a drive but at least it was sunny!

With a very young team (Haseley being the exception), Leander A won.

Great swims from all - as you will see, PB's from Summer Kennedy, Luca Formosa, Tobias Brown, Charlotte Barker,Chris Lambert, Katie Henderson & Matthew Fallon but most were within 0.5 of pb, so shows how well they all did. Thanks to Summer, Luca & Amber L for stepping up when other swimmers were ill and thanks to swimmers who came over after Sheffield - Hope they did well next day! Hope to read a write up from the event. This was a great result well deserved by all. As I mentioned we co-hosted and a big thanks to all who helped out on the day every thing ran well but with such a great team of helpers it was to be expected.

Leander B were at Hucknall - again, lots of great swims brought the team a well deserved third place.

Derby & Notts Round 2 PDF Print

Derby & Notts Round 2 Team 2

Saturday night began with a trip up the M1 and then quite a bit of excitement as most roads leading to Eckington Leisure Centre were closed. Luckily we had a full team by the end of warm up! We were pitted against some heavyweight teams, but if points were given for effort we definitely would have come first place, every swimmer gave everything they had.

Emma Erskine had a fantastic swim coming 2nd in the breaststroke.  Tyra pulled it out of the bag and gave us our 1st place of the evening in 50 breast. Breaststroke was definitely our favourite stroke of the night with Faraday getting herself 2nd place. Well done to all the swimmers. As always there was lots of support from all the parents. Many thanks to the coach, team managers and time keepers supporting our young swimmers
