Stage 3 Gala Team 1 PDF Print

Another Saturday night gala at Worksop - this time for the Stage 3 gala series.

With important open meets at both Leicester and Derby (the last chance for many to get midlands times) there were some notable absentees from the usual "A" team.

All the swimmers did their very best so in the first half of the gala we led Mansfield by 2 points. In the second half Mansfield pulled out a small lead but eventually we managed to win by 3 points - a great acheivement.

Thanks as always to the coach, team managers, timekeepers and supporters. Particular thanks to those swimmers who were able to get back from the mentioned Open Meets to join the team - much appreciated.

Backstroke Clinic PDF Print

Tonight saw the first of a series of clinics held at the University Pool for Leander swimmers. Coached by Alex Thurston with the awesome assistance of Sam Van De Schootbrugge demonstrating both drills and technique (surely soon to be full GB swimmer) saw everyone attending having fun, working hard and making great improvements.

A big thank you to Alex and Sam for their time and effort to put this on.

Well done to all the swimmers who, despite being a little cold, kept their concentration and did so well.

Next up Fly, Free or Breast - let us know your preference.

Stage 3 Round 1 Team 2 PDF Print

Leander B came a creditable 4th place just being pipped at the post by Ripley for 3rd after a thrilling night of competition. You can tell how well a gala has gone when both parents and swimmers alike go home happy knowing a job was well done and tonight was one of those nights.

We took only one 1st place, Luke Margetson in the 100 free (Nice swim Luke!) but you could see that everyone in the team swam their socks off.  Of note would be Jonnie  “I’ll just adjust my goggles“ Lambert, who would’ve have come 3rd in the 14’s 100 breast except he decided to - yes you’ve guessed it - adjust his goggles during the event!

Later I overheard one young swimmer say Paul (Emmins) was awesome and I’d agree but would add that to my eyes all the open swimmers Louise Hamer (good to see you back), Katherine Skinner, Luke Sperry, Matthew Lambert and Hector Harris Burton all had fantastic  swims and did a great job of encouraging the younger ones to do likewise.

Overall, well done team and a big thanks to the coach Mark Scotney , Team Manager Helen Sperry  Time Keepers Caren and Moreton and all the balcony support.

Derby & Notts League PDF Print

Derby & Notts - Round 1

B Team

A great effort by all swimmers last night in the Derby and Notts Team at Sharley Park. Everyone gave their best including Jonnie Lambert who achieved a 1st place.. The relays were very exciting as always with Megan Hobster and Tyra Walsh bringing home their teams with a determined final leg. Tyra also showed real guts in her individual breaststroke swim and was only just pipped into 2nd place. Faraday Saxton was unlucky to be judged 2nd in her backstroke swim and was credited with the same time as the first placed swimmer. The whole team showed a superb level of committment to every swim, hence the very credible 3rd place achieved on the night. Well done to all the coaches, team managers and time keepers who always encourage our swimmers and give them instant congratulations poolside.

Bring on the next round!!!

A Team (at Worksop)

They finished 4th with Derby A winning the gala

County Championships 2013 PDF Print

Phew! That's the Counties over for another year after a very long weekend at Watermeadows. Well done to all our swimmers for their efforts over the last few weekends - there have been some really impressive performances and lots of PB's.

Today saw the culmination of the Championships with the relays and we did well in these - I have a car full of trophies to be engraved.

Congratulations to Amy Richards and Luca Formosa who were Overall Top Girl and Top Boy and well done to all our other winners.

Thank you to all the poolside helpers and coaches - particularly Mark and Steve who should have just set up camp as they were always there!

Thanks to all you parents who battled through snow, fought for parking spots and put up with uncomfortable seats to support/cheer and encourage your swimmer and club
